How are FORMULĀE Elixirs extracted from their sources?

FORMULĀE LLC sources only the best organic ingredients, ensuring top-quality, sustainably grown, and sustainably harvested plants and mushrooms for maximum potency and purity in our tinctures, reflecting our commitment to excellence and health.

FORMULĀE’S dual extraction methods for tincture manufacturing starts with 5x distilled premium alcohol and distilled water which involves two key processes to maximize the extraction of medicinal compounds and flavors from herbs and mushrooms.

1. Alcohol Extraction

Maceration: Herbs are immersed in 5x distilled alcohol. The high potency and quality of the alcohol ensures efficient extraction of both water-soluble and fat-soluble compounds.

Steeping: The mixture is allowed to steep for several weeks, with occasional blending to enhance the extraction process.

Filtration: After the steeping period, the mixture is strained/filtered 5x to separate the alcohol extract from the herbal material. Sediment will still be present and that is a sign of high quality.

2. Water Extraction

Decoction: The previously used herbs are boiled in distilled water. This process helps extract additional water-soluble compounds that have not been fully extracted during the alcohol maceration.

Simmering: The herbs are simmered for a specific period, ensuring that the water-soluble constituents are thoroughly extracted.

Filtration: The water extract is then filtered 5x to remove the solid herbal materials.

Combining Extracts

Blending: The alcohol and water extracts are carefully combined. This dual extraction method ensures that the final tincture contains a comprehensive range of the herbs' active compounds, resulting in a more potent and effective product.

Final Filtration: The combined extract undergoes a final filtration process to ensure clarity and purity.

Bottling: The finished tincture is then bottled, sealed and labeled, ready for use. This dual extraction method leverages the strengths of both alcohol and water as solvents, ensuring a robust and balanced tincture that captures the full spectrum of medicinal potential of the plants and mushrooms.

The main terpenes found in adaptogenic mushrooms and often extracted by alcohol include:

1. Ergosterol: A precursor to vitamin D2 and an important compound in fungi, which can have antioxidant properties.

2. Beta-glucans: While technically polysaccharides, these compounds are often discussed alongside terpenes for their immunomodulatory effects.

3. Triterpenoids: Specific to certain mushrooms like Reishi, these include ganoderic acids which have anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor properties.

4. Hericenones: Found in Lion’s Mane mushrooms, these compounds support nerve growth factor production and cognitive health.

5. Betulinic Acid: Present in Chaga mushroom, known for its antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and potential anticancer properties.

6. Lanostane-type Triterpenes: These are common in several medicinal mushrooms and contribute to their adaptogenic properties.

Alcohol extraction is particularly effective in isolating these compounds due to its ability to dissolve both water-soluble and fat-soluble components.

A 5x distillation process offers numerous benefits, including:

1. Higher Purity: Each distillation step removes impurities, resulting in a cleaner final product.

2. Increased Potency: Repeated distillation concentrates the desired compounds, enhancing the product's effectiveness.

3. Improved Flavor: Multiple distillations can refine the taste, removing harsh or undesirable flavors.

4. Enhanced Clarity: The product becomes clearer and more visually appealing after several distillations.

5. Better Stability: Higher purity can lead to greater stability and a longer shelf life.

6. Consistent Quality: The repeated process ensures uniformity and consistency in each batch.

7. Reduced Contaminants: More distillations mean fewer contaminants like methanol, leading to a safer product.

8. Refined Aroma: The aroma becomes more pleasant and refined through multiple distillations.

9. Higher Value: Products made with 5x distillation are often perceived as premium, allowing for higher market prices.

10. Versatility: The final product is more versatile and can be used in a wider range of applications.
